Wurzweiler Welcomes Dr. Leslie Gutman to Present on Resilience Research

’s  welcomed Dr. Leslie Gutman as a guest speaker to Adjunct Professor of Social Work Dr. Rachel Fryman's Generalist Social Work Practice II course, where she presented on resilience research as part of the class' studies of evidence-based theories.  Dr. Gutman is a professor of applied development and health psychology and program director of the MSc in behavior change at University College London. In addition to teaching, Dr. Gutman is a research associate for the Early Intervention Foundation, as well as associate editor of the Journal of Adolescence and author of Resilience: A Jewish Guide To Facing Adversity, Fostering Strength, And Living Your Best Life. Dr. Gutman provided a historical overview of resilience research and explained it as a theoretical framework with application to social work interventions. She identified how resilience research is consistent with social work values and practice. Students discussed a case study in breakout rooms and learned an exercise for building resilience in their personal and professional lives.
