Care Café – Painting for Peace!

On Sunday, June 12, 2022, ’s partnered with Kilsy Hidalgo of Long Live Our Butterfly (LLOB), a domestic violence prevention organization, to recognize this month’s social awareness theme: Gun Violence Prevention month. Our festivities were held at Painting Hangout, a quaint studio located at 315 East 57th Street in New York City. Guests included domestic violence survivors and those who have directly experienced the long-term effects of violence in their families and communities. Our event opened with the provision of psychoeducation, a discussion around the ways in which creative arts serve to support improved mental health, tips for violence prevention and special testimonials by participants. The citrus-scented room was filled with hope and relaxation as our artist, Liza, guided our work with pieces that were curated specifically for us and representative of the theme. Pictured here are two art pieces that we made:
Left: The Swan – A Symbol of Peace | Right: The Flower - “Let us plant seeds of kindness”
A special “thank you” to our esteemed artists, Liza and Sam of Painting Hangout, for their generosity and accommodations. We also thank Team Butterfly for their continued commitment and support survivors. We look forward to our next painting party together! Learn more about and .
