With every street outreach event, we connect more with our community members. There were even some community members who made it a point to stop by and meet with the Care Café team to discuss their progress since our last contact. Accepting our invitation to collaboratively partner for this street outreach activity, the Vet Center’s, Veteran Outreach Program Specialist Damian Guzman, served with us to engage veterans and their families, on the spot, to inquire about their needs, supports, and introduce the variety of available services for Veterans. Standing together, a veteran services program representative and a team of social workers provided several consultations and received direct requests for help from veterans to connect them to medical care and preventive services with a resounding theme of relief. Information provided at our table included the provision of psychoeducation about mental health, the distribution of creative arts coloring books for stress relief, and direct links to social services programs upon request. A special “thank you” to our community partners, The Vet Center, National Black Commission on Health Manhattan Cluster, Lay Leader, Sister Myra of Williams Institutional CME Church, and their affiliates, and all the Care Café volunteers: Tiffany S., Blake R., Chanette B., and Allysha B. Your support and professionalism when engaging our community members was top notch!
