Justyna Rzewinski left her job as a clinical supervisor for mental health on Rikers Island just three weeks ago. She has emerged as a vital advocate for severely mentally ill detainees testifying to a city jail oversight board about the troubling practice of “deadlocking,” where individuals are confined to their cells for weeks or months without proper access to medications or mental health care.
